National Convention of Home Based Workers at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore on 26th October 2013

12:06
Greetings from Labour Education Foundation!

Labour Education Foundation (LEF) is organizing a National Convention for Home Based Workers at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore on 26th November 2013. Around 1,500 home based workers, mostly women, from different cities of Pakistan will be participating in this national convention.

The objective of this National Convention is to strengthen  process of uniting home based workers at national level and to express the demands for right to organize and social protection for home based workers across Pakistan. As the process of policy making for home based workers at national and provincial levels is going on in Pakistan since last few years and some progress is observed in this regard, this National Convention will help in building confidence for better collaboration among home based workers’ groups, trade unions, NGOs and state institutions.

According to the estimates, nearly 12 million home based women workers contribute to the economy of Pakistan through their production for different industrial and commercial sectors including garments, leather, embroidery, sports goods, shoe making, glass bangles and many others. But due to the lack of legal coverage, these millions of home based workers are unorganized, not recognized and not covered under social protection schemes.

LEF is working with formal and informal sector workers to organize and educated them through awareness raising about their rights, capacity building in pertinent concepts and skills and by linking them with the relevant institutions.

LEF is cordially inviting you to attend the convention.
